Modeling, Control and Analysis of a Doubly Fed Induction Generator Based Wind Turbine System: Optimization of the Power Produced

In recent years, wind energy has become one of the most important and promising sources of renewable energy. As a result, wind energy demands additional transmission capacity and better means of maintaining system reliability. The evolution of technology related to the wind system industry has led to the development of a generation of variable speed wind turbines that present numerous advantages compared to fixed-speed wind turbines. This paper deals with the modeling and control of a wind turbine driven doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) that feeds AC power to the utility grid. Initially, a model of the wind turbine and maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control strategy of the doubly-fed induction generator is presented. Thereafter, control vector-oriented stator flux is performed. Finally, the simulation results of the wind system using a doubly-fed of 3MW are presented in a Matlab/Simulink environment.
